Liquid

Liquid

Liquid:
A phase of matter where the atoms are loosely connected, flow, and take up any shape of container, but cannot change the volume it takes up. Liquids cannot resist shear forces.

Basic Properties of Liquids

Density

Liquid molecules are densely packed; the density changes with temperature, getting more or less dense depending on how the molecules or individual atoms solidify and when they enter the gaseous form (to clarify, all if not most substances get less dense when they heat up).

Surface Tension

All liquids display some level of surface tension because the atoms are attracted to each other. This surface tension is what makes liquids keep a relatively stable form and sometimes stick to solid surfaces.

Viscosity

The atoms of liquids flow around each other, which causes friction; the friction of a liquid's atoms is known as its viscosity. Viscosity increases and decreases as the liquid cools or heats, and is tied to density. There is a formula for liquid viscosity, but we here at Phase Phrogs have forgotten it and the shareholders will get mad if we spend anymore time working on this website, so it will be put in next update.

Volume

All liquids take up a set volume that depends on the substance and its temperature. Liquids cannot be compressed or expanded unless their temperature changes.

Elite Ball Knowledge

Liquids can have solids suspended in them. Sometimes, if you get enough of the right solids into the right liquid, you can get a non-Newtonian fluid, the best example of this is cornstarch and water.

Ignore that the cornstarch and rat poison are right next to each other and have the same box design.

Gas

After enough heat is added, a liquid will stay the same temperature (the maximum temperature the liquid can stably exist at), but some atoms will gain enough heat to enter a gaseous state.
